Movement is how children speak before words.Psychomotor therapy and family coaching with Amanda Antoun in Jamhour, Achrafieh and online

I'm Amanda Antoun, a psychomotor therapist and family coach. When a child struggles to sit still, hold a pencil, catch a ball or calm down, the body is often part of the story. I help children feel at home in their body, and I give parents simple things that work at home.

Does this sound like your child?

Parents usually notice it in everyday moments.

Tap what you notice. Nothing is sent until you choose to.

None of these means something is wrong. They can be signs that the body needs some support, and a short assessment tells us what is going on.

Try it yourself

Trace a shape the way a child does in a session. It looks simple until you notice how much the body is doing.

Before writing comes the body. The order in which most children learn to copy these shapes. Each one needs a ready body first: steady posture, a strong hand, and eyes and hands working together.

Age

What is psychomotor therapy?

Psychomotor therapy looks at how the body, emotions and thinking work together. Sessions are built around play and movement, so children practise real skills without feeling tested.

The body

Balance, coordination, posture, body awareness, and the hand skills that come before writing.

Emotions

Noticing what the body feels, and finding ways to calm down that work for this particular child.

Learning

Attention, organisation and the confidence to try, at school and at home.

Who does what

Psychomotor therapyHow movement, emotions and thinking work together, through play and the body
Occupational therapyEveryday activities and independence: dressing, eating, using a pencil or scissors
PhysiotherapyMuscles, joints and physical recovery
Speech therapyLanguage, speech, reading foundations and swallowing
PsychologyThoughts, feelings and behaviour, through talking and play

What most children can do, age by age

Choose an age to see the movement skills most children have by then. Every child develops at their own pace; this is a guide, not a test.

Kicks a ball

Runs

Walks up a few stairs with or without help

Eats with a spoon

If your child isn't doing something yet, it doesn't mean something is wrong. It's a good reason to ask.

How we start

  1. A free 15-minute call

You tell me what you notice. I ask a few questions and tell you honestly whether an assessment makes sense, or whether another specialist is a better first step.

  2. The assessment

About an hour of play-based tasks in clinic. You receive a written report and we go through it together.

  3. A plan you can follow

Clear goals, sessions if they are needed, and simple activities for home. We look at progress together along the way.

When I'll point you to someone else

Being honest about limits is part of the job. I will tell you when another professional should see your child first, and I can suggest who.

  • A loss of skills your child already had, or a recent medical problem: see your paediatrician first
  • Questions about a diagnosis (autism, ADHD, dyspraxia): a paediatric neurologist or child psychiatrist
  • Speech, language or swallowing difficulties: a speech therapist
  • Anxiety, low mood or family stress that needs talking therapy: a psychologist
Amanda Antoun, psychomotor therapist and family coach

Hi, I'm Amanda

I'm a psychomotor therapist and certified family coach, and the co-founder of Be-Right in Jamhour. For six years I have worked with children, teens, adults and seniors in clinics, schools and hospital settings.

I have supported children with developmental delays, coordination difficulties, autism, Down syndrome, epilepsy, and visual or hearing impairments. When a child needs a team, I work closely with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and doctors.

My sessions are playful on purpose. Children learn through their body, and parents leave with something concrete to try at home.

Questions parents ask

What does a psychomotor therapist do?

A psychomotor therapist looks at how a child moves, feels and learns, and uses movement and play to build skills like balance, coordination, hand skills, attention and emotional regulation.

How is it different from occupational therapy, physiotherapy or speech therapy?

Physiotherapy focuses on muscles, joints and physical recovery. Occupational therapy focuses on daily activities and independence. Speech therapy works on language, speech and swallowing. Psychomotor therapy works on how movement, emotions and thinking affect each other. Many children benefit from a team, and I work alongside all of these professionals.

From what age can my child be seen?

From early childhood. Most of the children I see are between 2 and 12, and I also work with teens, adults and seniors.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No. Many families contact me directly, and some are referred by their paediatrician or school. If something needs a medical opinion first, I will tell you.

Do you diagnose autism, ADHD or dyspraxia?

No. A diagnosis is made by a doctor, such as a paediatric neurologist or a child psychiatrist. My assessment describes your child's strengths and difficulties and guides the therapy plan, and I can refer you when a diagnosis is needed.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on the child and the goals. After the assessment I suggest a plan with clear goals, and we review progress together regularly.

Which languages do you work in?

Arabic, French and English, and often a mix of the three, like most Lebanese families.

Can sessions be online?

Assessments and therapy for children take place in clinic. Parent coaching and parent workshops can be online, including for families abroad.
